After VE Day the pace on the base must have been greatly relaxed. This page records a trip for base personal to visit the El Alimein station and site of the big turning point of WWII.
The trip to day from the old Mosquito site to El Alimein is about 1:30 mins. I would think in 1945 about the same time with time out for bathing on pristien beaches that are today built out.
